Celebrate the Arts 2025

On Friday, January 31, we enjoyed an exciting day full of creativity as our students showcased their talents in visual and performance art. Students from JPK - 8th grade amazed their friends and families with singing, dancing, acting, poetry, and more. It takes so much confidence to perform in front of a crowd and we couldn't be prouder of these kids!

The morning started with an incredible Shakespeare showcase as all of our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students directed and performed scenes from Julius Caesar & Romeo and Juliet. They have been studying these iconic plays in English class and spent this week in workshops with a group of professional actors from MUSE of Fire. Even with only 4 days of rehearsal, these students knocked it out of the park!

In addition to performances, Celebrate the Arts also highlighted the artwork that our students have been creating in their art classes! The hallways, which display student artwork year-round, transformed into a special gallery for the annual art show. This year’s theme is “Beautiful Birmingham” and each grade from JPK - 8 focused on different iconic Birmingham scenes and landmarks, from Vulcan to the Birmingham Zoo to the Alabama Theatre. Next time you visit, make sure to check out the beautiful artwork!

We ended the day by highlighting some outstanding creative professionals from around Birmingham. Kindergarten - 8th grade gathered in the Assembly Hall for a demonstration from two professional ballet dancers with the Alabama Ballet, as well as presentations from the directors of Terrific New Theatre and Backstage Dance Centre, where a number of Advent students participate in dance and theater.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Celebrate the Arts such a wonderful day, including our tremendous art teachers,  Mollie Everitt and Jennifer Gibson; incomparable language arts teachers Jackie Warfel and Wanda Williams; John McGinnes, Jessica Clark, and Annie Ledvina, the actors from MUSE; Alabama Ballet; Terrific New Theatre; Backstage Dance Centre; and the families and teachers who encourage kids to appreciate the arts every day!
